How about a login based system for attendees, where they can plan their conference prior by picking and choosing tracks and then printing out their customized event schedule?

And you could add those fancy Microformat thingies and have it suck right into your calendar.. How novel ;)

You could also have a social link up site too operational way before the event, that really rocked in wds06. Or at least create a group for attendees on linkedin or the like.
Print? what's that. How about a drag & drop list online that you can edit and save. Handheld-device-friendly.
Make that another vote for a personalised, mobile-device-friendly schedule.

Don't bother with a print version.
I'm trying to understand what people are really after with this one, because we already create a Microformats version of the schedule that can be sucked into calenders (ok, it's always a bit glitchy and never really works properly in Outlook or whatever Windows users use :), and we also have a mini version of the schedule printed on the back of the names badges so you can quickly access this info without even turning on a device.

But, there's obviously something "more" that people are wanting. Is it just getting the Microformats calender at our site to actually work? We can certainly try that :), though my latest info is that it won't work for Outlook users as this is an Outlook problem.

Or is it more that people want to get excited about thinking about the sessions before the day, plan out what they are going to see.

Thoughts?
Maxine, I think its more like being able to plan and arrange exactly which sessions I'm going to to and have that available to me either online, via handheld devices or just to print.

This personalised schedule won't show the session's I've decided I won't attend.

This could also help you get a better estimate of the numbers attending any particular session.

The mini schedule on the back of names is great. What is being suggested here won't replace that.
Moin,

I think it is a great idea.

anyone keen on throwing together a proof of concept :-)
If you want to see the mother of all schedulers... check this baby out:

I actually used it to schedule my time and it was GREAT!!
Yeah, and online interactive session planner would be great, because then it could also include where the sessions are, and what you need to bring to them (I've heard of a few web conferences needing laptops for a particular session.)

Doesn't SXSW have something like this?
